On average, a person can lose a life-threatening amount of blood anywhere between 2 to 5 minutes, depending on the characteristics of the wound. While “the average ambulance response time – for an EMS unit to arrive on the scene from the time of a 911 call – is about 7 minutes. This emergency response time is increased to more than 14 minutes in rural settings. Nearly 1 in 10 encounters wait up to a half-hour for EMS personnel to arrive.”
